3303) Ragnarok: A 10 Mark Coin minted by the Germania Mint foretells the great battle in which numerous great Norse mythological figures will perish (including the gods Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdall, and Loki): Year of Coin issue: 2024:

In Norse mythology, “Ragnarök”  is a foretold series of impending events, including a great battle in which numerous great Norse mythological figures will perish (including the gods Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdall, and Loki); it will entail a catastrophic series of natural disasters, including the burning of the world, and culminate in the submersion of the world underwater.

After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet, and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors, Líf and Lífþrasir.

Ragnarök is an important event in Norse mythology and has been the subject of scholarly discourse and theory in the history of Germanic studies.

The event is attested primarily in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson.

In the Prose Edda and in a single poem in the Poetic Edda, the event is referred to as “Ragnarøkkr” (Old Norse for 'Twilight of the Gods'), a usage popularised by 19th-century composer Richard Wagner with the title of the last of his “Der Ring des Nibelungen” operas, Götterdämmerung (1876), which is "Twilight of the Gods" in German.

Etymology:

The Old Norse compound word Ragnarok has a long history of interpretation. Its first element is clear -  "ragna", the genitive plural of regin (n. pl.) 'the ruling powers, gods.' The second element is more problematic, as it occurs in two variants, "-rök and -røkkr".

The word Rragnarök” as a whole is then usually interpreted as the 'final destiny of the gods.'

Put together: Ragnarök is an old Norse myth that describes the end of the world, a time when the universe and all life are destroyed.

The term comes from the Old Norse word “Ragnarǫk, which literally means twilight of the gods. The exciting tales and stories of this epoch describe the end of Odin, Thor, Loki, and all the gods of Asgard.

Those stories are being brought to life in a new series of precious metal rounds beautifully struck by the world-renowned Germania Mint in its all-new Ragnarök series!

The design Embodies/foretells of -  "The Forces Of Chaos And Destruction":

The first release in the series depicts the two ravenous wolves, Sköll & Hati, who during Ragnarök, pursue the sun and the moon—Sol and Mani—across the sky in hopes of catching and devouring them.

When Sköll (One Who Mocks) and  Hati (One Who Hates) catch their prey the sky and earth will darken and collapse.

Since the sun and the moon are essential for light and life, their destruction would destroy the world.

Sköll & Hati embody the forces of chaos and destruction that constantly threaten the balance of the world.

The Header/Banner shows the Reverse and Obverse of the 10 Mark Coin/Round together with the Certificate of Authenticity (COA)

Depicted on the Reverse of the  10 Mark Round/Coin, the pair are seen circling the planet chasing the sun and the moon.

A golden tint has been added to the sun and a luminous white tint has been added to the moon using UV printing to capture the different characteristics of each celestial body.
On the Obverse of the 10 Mark Coin/Round is  given the description - "GERMANIA 2024. 10 MARK".

The medal’s Obverse shows the Germania Mint’s double-headed eagle crest along with symbols representing the sun and moon.

A golden tint has been added to the sun and a luminous white tint has been added to the moon using UV printing.
