The Header/Banner is titled "ILMASTOTUTKIMUS Climate Research" and shows the Solver and Cupro-nickel issues against a background representation of a Beard lichen.

Finland has on 30.09.2022, issued new €20 Silver and €2 Base Metal Commemorative Collector Coins, which highlight the country’s efforts and activities of spearheading climate research.

In climate research, Finland is one of the top countries in the world.

Special expertise is available herein, for instance, Arctic climatology, greenhouse emissions, and in the study of the carbon balance of forests and soil.

The Commemorative Coin:

This important theme is being highlighted on a 2022 Silver commemorative coin.

The Reverse of the €20 Silver Collector Coin have been minted by the Lithuanian Mint at their facilities in Vilnius, on behalf of the Finnish Ministry of Finance.

Designed by the artistic duo team of Terhi Tuominen and Jitan V. Patel, they have chosen to feature nature’s own air quality meter — beard lichen — is depicted on the obverse side of this commemorative coin.

The relief is composed of a root-like branching network. The insightful motif and its shape can also be interpreted as representing the lungs — reminding us of the importance of air quality and its study.

The text included shown on either side of the beard lichen reads "ILMASTOTUTKIMUS" (Finnish) and "KLIMATFORSKNING" (Swedish), meaning “Climate Research” in Finland’s two official languages.

The Obverse of the €20 Silver Collector Coin features a series or pattern of small dots representing the small particles created in the air as well as the data obtained from analysing them.

The dots form a line diagram, the curve of which can be interpreted as mirroring the fell landscape of the Pallas-Sodankylä observation network.

The text placed above the primary design reads "SUOMI FINLAND"; the words are separated by the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint with the coins’ denomination "€20" shown under the design.

The Two-Euro Bi-metallic Coins have been minted by the Mint of Finland at their facilities in Vantaa, on behalf of the Finnish Ministry of Finance.

The Reverse side depicting beard lichen is included along with the text ILMASTOTUTKIMUS and KLIMATFORSKNING and the mintmark of the Mint of Finland seen at the top of the design.

The Commemorative Coin has been issued in four variants:
