About Europa 2022 - Stamps:

EUROPA Stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations.

They bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world and have been issued for over 60 years.

Every year a new theme is assigned by PostEurop and all participating countries issue stamps with their own interpretation of the theme. The theme for 2022 is "Stories and Myths"

More about EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage stamps (also known as Europa - CEPT - European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bears the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.

Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and co-operation.

In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the Europa issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPA" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each year, PostEurop's "Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA stamp theme:

About Europa 2022 - "Stories and Myths" Stamp  issued by Posten Aland (Aland Post)

PostEurop stamp theme for 2022 is "Stories and Myths".

The EUROPA Stamps issued by Posten Aland (Aland Post) feature the Legends of the "Sea Robbery and the Council":

Posten Aland will issue on 09.05.2022, a EUROPA stamp depicting the "Legend of the Sea Robbery".

The Legends - Background:

Sea Robbery, Aland Island:

On 09.05.2022, Åland Post will publish this year's stamp in PostEurop's stamp series Europe, whose theme in 2022 is fairy tales and legends.

The Postage stamp of 2.30 Euro depicting the Sea Robbery (Mermaid).

The Åland stamp shows the seaweed, a female, body of water in Åland folklore.

The stories about the Sea Robbery (also called the mermaid, is closely related to the mermaid), are inspiring and appealing because the figure is both unpredictable and uncontrollably primitive, one does not know if it contributes to lucky events or causes distress, which both frightens and attracts humans. The Sea Robbery rules over the sea and lakes and can even predict deaths and bad weather.

The Sea Robbery is considered a beauty, but it only extends to the front. On the back it is a hollow rotten stump.

The Sea Robbery likes to show herself to the people and is fond of young men whom she gives hunting and fishing luck if they team up with her. She has a pike as a pet and even keeps her own livestock. Her sea cows can be seen grazing among the human livestock and even mating with them.

If one gives the Sea Robbery a penny or gives her a gift, then she will be in a good mood and watch over one's boat.

The similarity for the Sea Robbery itself probably is "Vellamo in Kalevala" or the "Sirens in Odysses".

A Council is a being that determines a specific area.

The stamp motif is largely based on stories in Lennart Torstensson Renvall's collection about Åland folklore from the 1890s, which includes stories about the sea robbery from several Åland municipalities. Stories of the Sea Robbery occur all over the Nordic countries.

A Maxi Card - This is a Collectible which has all three elements on one face - the picture, the stamp and the cancellation.

On the First Day Cover (FDC) the Sea Robbery peeks over the edge of a boat. The FDC shows two sides of the Sea Robbery - the beautiful front and the ugly back.shows the head of a Sea Robbery in the centre.

The special Cancellation Stamp/Postmark is of Mariehamn Post Office and the date of cancellation is 09.05.2022".
