About Europa 2022 - Stamps:

EUROPA Stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations.

They bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world and have been issued for over 60 years.

Every year a new theme is assigned by PostEurop and all participating countries issue stamps with their own interpretation of the theme. The theme for 2022 is "Stories and Myths"

More about EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage stamps (also known as Europa - CEPT - European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bears the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.

Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and co-operation.

In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the Europa issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPA" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each year, PostEurop's "Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA stamp theme:

About Europa 2022 - "Stories and Myths" Stamp set issued by Posten Norge (Norwegian Post):

PostEurop stamp theme for 2022 is "Stories and Myths".

The EUROPA Stamps issued by Posten Norge (Norwegian Post) feature the Legends of the "Troll and the Forest Nymph":

Posten Norge (Norwegian Post) has issued on 21.04.2022, a set of two EUROPA stamps depicting the "Troll and Forest Nymph".

The Legends - Background:

Legends, or myths, are said to differ from fairy tales in that the narratives appear to be true. This does not necessarily mean that the narrator believes the story is true, but as the storyteller, he must present it as the truth.

Unlike the fairy tale, where the hero wins over the opponent, legends mostly end with defeat for the main protagonist. While fairy tales are not linked to specific locations and take place in an indeterminate time, the legend’s attachment to reality is reinforced by how the events often unfold in a named place, with named persons. This serves to reinforce the credibility of the story.

The two Norwegian folklore collectors Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe created the collection of the most famous Norwegian folktales.

From the mid-1830s, Asbjørnsen gathered tales and legends, and began his collaboration with Jørgen Moe a few years later.

The results of their journeys around Norwegian to collect stories were presented and published in booklets from 1841. This was a major contribution to Norwegian culture that drew international recognition.

Moe was the most critical when it came to retelling the stories, and he also best mastered the folklore style.

On the other hand, Asbjørnsen had a more versatile epic talent. This was expressed in his independent retelling, or re-creation, of Norwegian legends, "Norske Huldre-Eventyr og Folkesagn" (a "collection of Norwegian fairy tales").

One of the stamps of 20g depicts the Troll frightening passengers travelling in a vehicle on the road.

The other stamp of 20g depicts a Forest Nymph sitting on a rock.

The First Day Cover (FDC) depicts  a ram and a toothed (Tusked) elephant at left, waiting in the mist covered shadows to waylay/frighten unsuspecting passers-by.

At top right are affixed the two EUROPA stamps issued by Posten Norge (Norwegian Post).

The special cancellation postmark which is in the shape of a Book symbolising the collection of Myths and Stories of Norway, is of Oslo Post Office and the cancellation is dated - "21.04.2022".

A Collectible - serially numbered from 01 to 750.
