About Europa 2021 - Stamps:

EUROPA Stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations.

They bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world and have been issued for over 60 years.

Every year a new theme is assigned by PostEurop and all participating countries issue stamps with their own interpretation of the theme. The theme for 2021 is "Endangered National Wildlife"

More about EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage stamps (also known as Europa - CEPT - European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bears the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.

Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and co-operation.

In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the Europa issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPA" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each year, PostEurop's "Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA stamp theme:

About Europa 2021 - "Endangered National Wildlife Stamps issued by Posten Aland (Aland Post):

This year’s PostEurop stamp theme is ‘Endangered National Wildlife’, and Posten Aland has depicted a species which is identified under this category.

These beautiful stamps feature species that are locally registered from "Critically Endangered" through to "Near Threatened".

The EUROPA Stamp issued by Posten Aland features the Moor Frog ("Rana arvalis"):

The Moor Frog ("Rana arvalis"):

The Åland "EUROPA" no value indicator stamps depicts the protected Moor Frog ("Rana arvalis"). The male takes on a blue colour during spawning season.

The Moor Frog ("Rana arvalis") is a slim, reddish-brown, semiaquatic amphibian native to Europe and Asia. It is a member of the family Ranidae, or true frogs.

The family the moor frog belongs to, Ranidae, is a broad group containing 605 species, and the characteristics that define them are more general. These frogs are found all throughout the world, on every continent but Antarctica.

The Moor Frog's scientific name, "Rana arvalis" means "Frog of theFields".

This species is generally common and often abundant. It faces few major threats and is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN. The moor frog may be impacted by the destruction and pollution of breeding sites and adjacent habitats, mostly through urbanization, recreational use of waterside areas, and intensive agriculture. The species does not appear to be notably susceptible to chytridiomycosis (an infectious disease in Amphibians).

A First Day Cover (FDC) showing Moor Frog specimens at left in their watery habitat. The FDC is titled - "EUROPA".

At top right is affixed the EUROPA Postage Stamp cancelled with a special Handstamp of Mariehamn Post Office. The cancellation is dated - "07.05.2021".

A Full Sheet (FS) exhibiting a Gutter.

In philately, a gutter is the space left between postage stamps which allows them to be separated or perforated.

When stamps are printed on large sheets of paper that will be guillotined into smaller sheets along the gutter it will not exist on the finished sheet of stamps.

Some sheets are specifically designed where two panes of stamps are separated by a gutter still in the finished sheet and gutters may, or may not, have some printing in the gutter.

Since perforation of a particular width of stamps is normal, the gutter between the stamps is often the same size as the postage stamp.

Several derivative terms exist:

Gutter pairs are two stamps separated by a gutter.

Gutter block is a block of at least four stamps where either the vertical or horizontal pairs, or both, are separated by a gutter.

Gutter margin is a margin dividing a sheet of stamps into separate panes.

Five species of amphibians live in Åland:

In addition to the Moor Frog, these include Great Crested Newt ("Triturus cristatus"), Smooth Newt ("Lissotriton vulgaris"), Common Toad ("Bufo bufo") and Common Frog ("Rana temporaria").
