Postal services in Andorra are unique in that they are not operated by the country itself, but by its two larger neighbouring countries, Spain and France.

This is a legacy of the centuries of de facto control exercised by those two countries over Andorra.

Correos of Spain (Spanish Post) and La Poste of France (French Post) operate side by side. However the postal code system, introduced in July 2004, has a different format from those of either Spain or France, consisting of the letters "AD", followed by three digits.

Both postal administrations issue their own postage stamps for use in Andorra featuring unique designs, as those of Spain and France are not valid. These are used for international correspondence, as postal service within Andorra is free.

About Europa 2021 - Stamps:

EUROPA Stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations.

They bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world and have been issued for over 60 years.

Every year a new theme is assigned by PostEurop and all participating countries issue stamps with their own interpretation of the theme. The theme for 2021 is "Endangered National Wildlife"

More about EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage stamps (also known as Europa - CEPT - European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bears the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.

Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and co-operation.

In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the Europa issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPA" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each year, PostEurop's "Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA stamp theme:

About Europa 2021 - "Endangered National Wildlife Stamps issued by Correos, Spain ("Correus Espanyols"):

This year’s PostEurop stamp theme is ‘Endangered National Wildlife’, and Correos, Spain has depicted the Bearded Vulture which are critically endangered.

These beautiful stamps feature species that are locally registered from "Critically Endangered" through to "Near Threatened".

The EUROPA Stamp issued by Correos, Spain ("Correus Espanyols") on behalf of the Principaity of Andorra ("Principat d'Andorra") features the Bearded Vulture, a large Bird of Prey:

The Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) is a species of vulture that gets its name from the peculiar way it feeds, breaking the bones that go up high, to let them fall and fracture against the ground into smaller pieces, which later it gobbles with great voracity.

It is a large bird of prey with a distinctive appearance: it has a bunch of black feathers under its beak, which forms a kind of “beard”. This bird belongs to the family Accipitridae.

It is one of the great diurnal raptors of the Pyrenees, whose characteristics can be seen on the seal and allow it to be easily recognized in its natural habitat.

Its long and narrow wings, which can reach 3 meters in wingspan, its rhomboid-shaped tail and its feathered head, the latter characteristic that differentiates it from other vultures, since it does not need to insert its head and neck into the bodies of dead animals but feeds exclusively on bones.

Its predominantly osteophagous diet gives it its status as an essential animal in the trophic chain, since it removes the remains of the corpses of dead animals in the mountains.

The Bearded Vulture is found mainly in open, rocky, mountainous areas, at altitudes of 2,000 to 4,500 m above sea level. This bird lives at one of the highest altitudes of any bird of prey.

Bearded vultures play an important role in the ecological balance of nature. As they mainly feed on remains of dead animals, Bearded vultures serve as a natural sanitation service.

It is a species with a wide distribution in the European continent, despite being in danger of extinction, even disappearing from several regions where it was abundant.

The population that exists in the Pyrenees is one of the most important and still viable in Europe, thanks in large part to the conservation and consolidation work of the species carried out by the Government of Andorra together with the "Associació per a la Defensa de la Natura", in the PACT program (Pla d'Actuacions per a la Conservació del Trencalós), whose actions are structured in the following areas:

- monitoring of bearded vulture populations,

- establishment of supplementary feeding points,

- social and media outreach and

- international collaboration programs.

The EUROPA Postage Stamp of 1.50 Euros features the Bearded Vulture.

The First Day Cover (FDC) is titled - "EUROPA",  "FAUNA EN PERILL TRENCALOS" ("Endangered National Fauna/Wildlife") and shows the Bearded Vulture at left.

At top right is affixed the "EUROPA" postage stamp issued cancelled with a rectangular Cancellation Handstamp/Postmark which shows the Bearded Vulture in flight. The date of Cancellation is - "30.04.2021".
