First Oveflight Over North Pole:
The first verified flight over the North Pole was achieved on May 12, 1926, by Roald Amundsen, Italian Engineer Umberto Nobile, and American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth, paving the way for polar aerial exploration.
The airship Norge, designed and piloted by Nobile, completed a remarkable transpolar journey from Europe to Alaska. This expedition marked a significant milestone in aerial exploration and scientific discovery, demonstrating the potential of air travel to reach remote and inhospitable regions.
The successful transpolar flight of the Norge was not only a triumph of engineering but also a testament to the spirit of adventure and exploration.
The crew dropped the flags of the three nations represented: Norway, the United States, and Italy, and then continued their journey to Alaska.
Fifteen years after reaching the South Pole by land, Roald Amundsen thus became the first person to have reached both poles.
