4287) "Closer European Integration," Moldova: "European Integration Coin Series": First Coin in the Series depicts a 100 Lei Dodecahedron-Shaped Silver Proof Coins Mark SEPA (or "Single Euro Payment Area) Membership:  Date/Year of Coin issue: 19.12.2025:

What is SEPA:

SEPA, (or Single Euro Payments Area), is a payment integration initiative of the European Union that simplifies bank transfers denominated in euros.

Established in 2008, it allows for easy and low-cost Euro payments across all EU countries and several non-EU countries, facilitating cashless transactions through credit transfers and direct debits.

SEPA aims to make Euro payments as simple and efficient as domestic payments, enhancing the overall payment experience for consumers and businesses alike.

The National Bank of Moldova has released a 100 Lei Silver Coin featuring Moldova's integration into SEPA.

The Reverse of the 100 Lei Silver coin features a closer European integration for Moldova.

Titled ‘European Moldova’ the Silver Coin highlights the many aspects of integration undertaken by the Country of Moldova as they navigate closer eventual European Union membership.

Moldova has pursued membership in the EU and was granted candidate status in June 2022 and formal accession talks to the EU began on the 13th December 2023

 The Coin:

The first coin highlights Moldova in the Single Euro Payments Area as the National Bank of Moldova and the banking system have now become members of SEPA

- The accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Single Euro Payments Area - SEPA has involved a strategic process carried out in three distinct stages beginning with the submission of the official application for accession on the 30th January 2024

The acceptance of the Republic of Moldova into SEPA was confirmed on the 6th March 2025 and the operational integration was finalised on the 6th October 2025 at which time allowed for the effective connection of the national payment system to the European infrastructure.

On the 27th August 1991, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union months away, the Moldavian Soviet legislature declared the country’s independence and re-adopted the official name of Moldova

As the former Soviet Ruble was being replaced with a transitional coupon system, the need to introduce a permanent and practical national currency was underway

The Moldovan currency, the Leu was established and officially placed into general circulation on the 29th November 1993 and Moldovans celebrated the 30th anniversary of the currency in 2023

With the inclusion of Moldova into SEPA, the country is brought closer to the European financial standard through modern, secure and accessible solutions. Internationally, the Moldovan currency becomes a symbol of trust, consistency and intangible value.

The twelve-sided 100 Lei Silver Proof and colour coins are produced by the Monetăria Statului, Romanian State Mint at their facilities in Bucharest on behalf of the National Bank of Moldova and designed by Professor Eugeniu Boico.
