4337) "100 years of the Budapest Mint Circulation Line", Hungary: A piece of money history: A BU Coin Set issued by the Budapest Mint (BP): Date/Year of Coin Set issue: 29.01.2026:
Description
In November 1918, due to the unfavourable development of the front line of World War I, the Hungarian Ministry of Finance ordered the immediate dismantling of the Royal Hungarian Mint, which was already operating as the only Hungarian mint in Kremnica (today Kremnica, Slovakia), and the transport of the machinery and equipment to Budapest.
A significant part of the mill's management and workers moved with the shipment. In practice, the provision required the complete reconstruction of domestic coinage.
After several years of design and construction work, coinage could start in 1926, exactly one hundred years ago, in the Hungarian Royal State Mint established in Budapest.
It was here that the minting of coins of the new national currency, the pengő monetary system, which entered into circulation on 1 January 1927, began.
The Circulation Coin Series:
The circulation series contains the complete denomination series of the 2026 circulation forint coins (HUF 5,10,20,50,100 and 200) in BU design. The coins are sold by "BP" mintmark, which has been marking the minting place of all Hungarian coins made in Budapest for 100 years.
