The first coin in the "Then and Now Coin Series" celebrates human thirst for discovery - EXPLORATION.

The Reverse of the $10 Silver Coin seen in the background of man's landing on the moon, with the Earth being postioned in the far distance, in the centre of the imagery

The pace of human progress has accelerated tremendously since the first powered flight and man's landing on the moon. This Coin Series will chart the progress highlighting major events.

The Silver Coin:

The Reverse and Obverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin seen placed side-by-side

On the Reverse of the $10 Silver  Proof Coin is depicted Christopher Columbus, at the head of  a three ship expedition (1492) landing in the Americas and being grateful that he found land, as during most of the journey, he dreaded falling off the face of the Earth and kept sitting fearfully in his cabin (as there was a misconception/wide-spread belief among the Europeans that the "Earth was Flat"). His landing place was an island in the Bahamas, known as "Guanahani".

The inscription on the lower periphery reads - "Voyagers Thirst for Discovery".

On the Obverse of the $10 Silver Proof Coin is depicted a potential Martian landing, with the possibility of a base being built on the Red Planet, for scientific research and settling a colony. One can see a Martian Rover in front of the Mars Spaceman, conducting experiments and space satellites orbiting overhead.

There is a small effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right at the top centre. The peripheral inscriptionsare - "ELIZABETH II. 10 DOLLARS. COOK ISLANDS. 2021
