The Series was introduced jointly with the Nemzeti Örökség Intézete (National Heritage Institute), the Magyar Nemzeti Bank has issued the 12th Commemorative coin in its series of coins presenting national memorial sites in Hungary. named "The Military Memorial Park, Pákozd",) with a face value of 3,000 forints in non-ferrous metal finish.
The primary role of the collector coins is to raise awareness and promote our national values, and their use in everyday payments is to be avoided. The denomination is intended to preserve the value the coin holds as a collector's item.
The series was launched in 2014 at the initiative of the Hungarian Heritage Institute, and the technical specifications of its pieces are identical. Regarding their content, they follow the principle that one side of the coin features an image showing the entire site, with the other focussing on a characteristic detail.
Previously issued collector coins of the series presenting national memorial sites in Hungary: ’Somogyvár-Kapuvár’ (2014), ’Mohács’ (2015), ’New Public Cemetery of Rákoskeresztúr’ (2016), ’Kossuth Lajos Square Budapest’ (2017), ’Fiumei Cemetery’ (2018), ’Esztergom, Castle Hill and Víziváros’ (2019), ’Debrecen, Reformed Great Church and College’ (2020), ’Ópusztaszer National Heritage Park’ (2021), ’Székesfehérvár, Romkert’ (2022), ’Military Memorial Park, Pákozd’ (2023), ’Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma’ (2024).
The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has issued a non-ferrous metal collector coin in bronze-coated finish named ‘Pákozdi Katonai Emlékpark’ (Pákozd Military Memorial Park) on 29 September 2023, on the 175th anniversary of the first victorious battle of the 1848–1849 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence.
This coin of 3,000 forints is the tenth addition to the series launched in 2014 at the initiation of the Hungarian Heritage Institute, which is set to present Hungarian national memorial sites. The coin was designed by sculptor Mercédesz Dorisz Molnár.
The Battle:
Fought in the Pákozd-Sukoró area on 29 September 1848, the battle is considered to mark the beginning of the Hungarian War of Independence, where the Hungarian army, outnumbered by the opposing force, defended the achievements of the Revolution and the April Laws, and forced the Ban of Croatia, Jellasic's army to retreat.
The victory became a symbol of Hungarian defence, primarily on account of its moral significance.
The day of 29 September has been regarded as Ground Forces Day since 1992.
The Military Memorial Park in Pákozd - National Memorial Site:
The Military Memorial Park in Pákozd - National Memorial Site was established in the area of the obelisk erected in 1951 in honour and memory of the Battle of Pákozd-Sukoró on 29 September 1848.
In its current form, this national memorial site was opened in 2010 with a view to presenting the history of the Hungarian Defence Forces, established in 1848, to introducing the most significant events in the 175 years of Hungarian military history and to paying tribute to the known and unknown heroes of those days.
Pákozd is home to the central memorial site of the Hungarian Defence Forces, where not only the soldiers fallen in the battle, but also the people executed during the autocratic regime, are commemorated.
The Don Chapel honours the Hungarian heroes of World War II, and the Monument to the Peacekeepers pays tribute to the sacrifice Hungarian soldiers made, who maintained peace in foreign countries.
The Commemorative Coin:
Hungary’s 2023 “National Monuments” coin series featured the Pákozd Military Memorial Park collector coin, issued by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) on 29 September 2023. It marked the 175th anniversary of the first victorious battle of the 1848–1849 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence.

The collector coin, with a face value of 3,000 forints, is the tenth in the series presenting of national memorials sites in Hungary.
The Reverse of the 3000 Forint Collector Coin 'Pákozdi Katonai Emlékpark’ highlights the obelisk erected in 1951 in honour of the "Battle of Pákozd" fought on 29.09.1848, designed by Gyula Kiss Kovács, with the national memorial site and Lake Velence in the background.
The compulsory elements of legal tender are also found on the Reverse: the inscription ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’ (Hungary) referring to the issuer, on the left, in the middle, in two lines (mintmark of the Budapest Mint where the Coin was minted) and the mint year ‘2023’ indicating the year when this Coin was issued - with the denomination ‘3000’ and the lettering ‘FORINT’ in two lines to the right of the representation of the obelisk.
On the Obverse of the 3000 Forint Collector Coin, in the centre field, the representation of the Military Memorial Park in Pákozd - National Memorial Site is seen from a bird's eye view, which is surrounded by an outer ring.
In the outer ring, the name of the national memorial site is shown broken into two semi-circles (at the top the wording ‘KATONAI EMLÉKPARK • PÁKOZD’ (Military Memorial Park), at the bottom the inscription ‘NEMZETI EMLÉKHELY’ (National Memorial Site), on the left, the logo of national memorial sites and on the left the designer mark of Mercédesz Dorisz Molnár, designer of the coins, are placed.
