The fourth coin in the series focuses on the Austrian Mint’s 2026 Horn coin (“Anpirschen – Horn”) features a horn-themed design. 

About Horn - The combination of nature and craftsmanship:

Horn – a material that has had a special significance in Austrian traditional costume culture for centuries. As one of the most original materials, it symbolises the close connection between man, nature and craftsmanship. 

Made from a natural raw material, horn is processed by skillful hands into noble decorations that give traditional clothing an unmistakable character.

Horn is more than just a material. It is a piece of living tradition that draws on regional resources and incorporates nature into fashion. Its use in traditional costumes stands for the art of seeing the beautiful in the simple and filling everyday things with meaning. 

Whether as buttons, decorative appliqués or carved pieces of jewellery - horn gives the traditional costume a noble and authentic touch that is unmistakably linked to Austrian culture. It is a material that unites the past with the present and keeps the awareness of sustainable craftsmanship alive.

Horn, as well as leather or loden, is a material of the region. It reflects the closeness to nature and the ability to transform the everyday into art. Whether as buttons, decorations or jewellery - horn stands for the fusion of tradition, elegance and respect for nature.

 The Coins:

On the Reverse of the 10 Euro Silver Proof Coin, is seen a man in traditional costume, whose appearance is emphasised by elaborate horn applications. 

The buttons of his waistcoat and the details on his traditional skirt are not only practical elements, but also an expression of centuries-old craftsmanship. 

Every button and ornament tells a story – of skill, patience and an appreciation of natural materials.

In the background, an ornament in the style of horn carving frames the motif. 

This handicraft, in which horn is decorated with filigree carvings, is a real masterpiece and a testament to the creativity of the craftsmen. 

In the centre of the ornament is the head of a majestic stag – a symbol of the animal world of the Alpine region and the inspiration behind many traditional costume motifs.
