The German Federal Republic’s Ministry of Finance and the Deutschland (German Mint) has brought out the fifth coin titled "Rescue Services" in this Coin Series which began in 2022 with the theme “In the Service of Society.”
This Coin Series will highlight particular groups of people who are indispensable for those affected by emergencies regarding safety and health and also for the functioning in human society as a whole from disasters both natural and man-made.
The Series highlights the special importance of groups of people who are indispensable for the functioning of our society and the lives of each individual.
After the 2022-dated coin highlighting "Health Care" (in the field of medicine), the 2023 Coin focussed on the "Fire Brigade", whose responsibility is far-reaching and includes much more than fighting fires, the 3rd coin in Germany’s “In the Service of Society” Series was dedicated to the "Police" (issued in 2024), and the 4th coin highlighted the "Federal Agency for Technical Relief" (Technisches Hilfswerk, THW), released on 24 April 2025. "Rescue Services" is the fifth issue in the "In the Service of Society" Series.
The Series focusses on the people who are frontline responders and indispensable for the functioning of society as a whole.
Every coin design in the series and its specific focus will be represented by a particular colour for an occupational group:

The coin focusses on special groups of people who are indispensable for affected people and the functioning of our society.
Founded on 22 August 1950 as a civil security service, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) looks back on a history of more than 70 years.
In 1953, the THW became a federal agency, located at the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Since then, it has followed the legal mandate to provide technical assistance in the event of emergencies and accidents to protect the population, during foreign missions on behalf of the Federal Government and in local hazard prevention.
The THW is unique in its structure worldwide: only 2% of the more than 90,000 members are employed full-time, 98% – around 88,000 people, including around 11,300 women – are involved in voluntary work.
The management headquarters are in Bonn, there are eight state associations as well as 66 regional offices and 668 local associations, in which everyday voluntary work is lived.
Whether it was the storm surge in Hamburg in 1962, the mine disaster in Lengede in 1963 or the flood of the century on the Oder and Elbe rivers in 2002, the THW was in action everywhere and provided valuable help.
The largest operation so far took place in 2021:
After the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley and in other parts of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, all 668 local associations were involved in clearing roads, building bridges, securing houses and taking care of the local people.
THW is also repeatedly active abroad, whether after periods of drought, civil wars and earthquakes in Africa, Europe and South America, after the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia, Hurricane Katrina in the USA in 2005 or the natural disaster in Haiti in 2010. abroad by transporting relief supplies.
In total, the volunteers completed over one million hours of deployment and more than 240,000 hours of training. The THW is a prime example of how important voluntary commitment is for a society and what positive effects it brings.
The Coin:
The Reverse of the 10 Euro Tri-material Polymer Ring Coin design by Lorenz Crössmann from Berlin convinces with the lively depiction of the human and professional aspects of the work of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), for example in the search and rescue of injured persons, flood protection and a typical operational situation with heavy equipment.
- The activities depicted are grouped around the THW logo in the centre and are framed by the polymer ring, which is kept in the characteristic THW blue.
- The emergency forces, which are open in their sexuality, illustrate the organisation's claim to versatility.
The vivid composition of image elements, logo and typography harmonises very well with the value side, which is identical for all coins in the series.
The Obverse of the 10 Euro Tri-material Polymer Ring Coin depicts a stylised eagle centred with the year of issue "2025" placed just under and the denomination of "10 EURO" shown below the eagle on the outer ring.
The issuer "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" is placed along the top edge.
On the outside of the polymer ring are 12 stars representing the European Union arranged as six stars on each side in a semi-circle.
The incused edge lettering reads: "IM DIENST DER GESELLSCHAFT" (“IN THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY”).
A mintmark is shown just above the eagle with all five national mints represented with: Berlin (A), Munich (D), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G), and Hamburg (J).
