A 5 Euro Colour Printed Coin features "Ariane
6":
This coin marks the start of the five-part series "Exploring Space".
The Ariane 6 launch vehicle, with its flexible deployment options, is considered a key component of the European space strategy.
Background information:
Ariane 6 is a heavy-lift launch vehicle designed to secure Europe's independent access to space.
It was developed by ArianeGroup as part of a programme by the European Space Agency (ESA).
It is built in two versions: the Ariane 62 with two solid rocket boosters for medium payloads and the Ariane 64 with four boosters for heavy missions.
Its main engine runs on liquid oxygen and hydrogen, and the upper stage features a restartable engine, enabling the precise placement of multiple satellites into different orbits.
The Ariane 6 is versatile, capable of carrying everything from communications and Earth observation satellites to research and scientific missions.
It is considered a key pillar of the European space programme.
Description of the Coin:
The coin was developed in collaboration with the ArianeGroup.
It was designed by artists Sascha Morawetz from Hamburg (Obverse) and Till Mainz from Berlin (Reverse).
- The design is divided into a graphic, technical representation of both versions of the rocket and a pictorial depiction of the rocket against the backdrop of Earth.
- The orbits skillfully unify the imagery, creating a highly dynamic effect.
The inscription "Ariane 6" follows the orbit, and the strategic use of color in the Earth area strikingly emphasizes the rocket's shape.
