4363) "Torngat Mountains National Park" (meaning - "The Place of the Spirits" in Inktituit, Canada: "National Parks Coin Series": The First $ 20 - CAN) Silver Proof and Colour Coin in the Series brought out by The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) featuring the National Park: Date/Year of Coin issue: 12.02.2026:
The Royal Canadian Mint has issued the first $20 (Twenty Dillars - CAN) Silver proof & Colour Coin in the Coin Series titled - "National Parks Coin Series" bringing out the Park's exceptional natural beauty.
The Header/Banner presents a colourful view of the Reverse of the Torngat Mountains National Park against a background representation of the National Park. The designs all feature two red Adirondack chairs often seen in Canadian National Parks.
The first coin in the Canada’s National Parks Coin Series brings out a beautiful and colourful view from a different region of Canada, and deep into one of the 37 national parks and 11 national park reserves.
The first coin in this four-coin series highlights Torngat Mountains National Park, located to the furthest northern point or peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Echoes of ancient footsteps and thousands of years of Inuit cultural tradition have consecrated this sacred place.
Its name comes from the Inuktitut word Tongait, meaning ‘place of spirits’ and those acquainted with its spectacular landscapes know that Torngat Mountains National Park is a place like no other.
(Inuktitut is an Inuit language spoken primarily in northern Canada, including regions of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. It is one of the principal Inuit languages and is written using the Canadian Aboriginal syllabics. The term "Inuktitut" itself means "like Inuit" or "in the manner of Inuit," and it encompasses all Inuit languages of Canada, including Inuvialuktun and Inuinnaqtun. Inuktitut has official recognition in Nunavut and is used in education and cultural institutions).
The park’s remoteness has long kept its magnificent peaks and glacier-carved inlets hidden from the rest of the world, since there are no roads and only 9700 square kilometres or, 3745 square miles of untamed northern wilderness and unparalleled beauty.
Home to the tallest peaks east of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Torngat Mountains National Park was first established as a national park reserve in 2005 as a result of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, becoming a national park in 2008.
It is cooperatively managed by the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, the Inuit of Nunavik and Parks Canada.
