4243) Ojibwe Dreamcatchers (known in the Ojibwe language as "asabikeshiinh" ("spider") or "bawaajige nagwaagan" (dream snare)Canada. $20 (Twenty Dollars - CAN) Silver Proof Coins brought out by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) which feature a Timeless Symbol of Love and Protection: Date/Year of Coin issue: 2025:

The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) has released $20 (Twenty Dollars) Proof Silver Coins on Ojibwe Dreamcatchers (known in the Ojibwe language as "asabikeshiinh" ("spider") or "bawaajige nagwaagan" (dream snare) representing peace and harmony.

The Reverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars - CAN) Silver Proof Coin features elements of a dream-catcher against a background representation of a Ojibwe Teepee/Wigwam in a cloud covered lighted sky.

This Silver Proof Coin presents a focus on Ojibwe native Canadian heritage which is brought to life through dream-catchers

Known in the Ojibwe language as asabikeshiinh (spider) or bawaajige nagwaagan (dream snare), the dream-catcher is believed to have the spiritual power to capture negative thoughts and nightmares, much like a spider’s cobweb

It originated as a way of protecting the young, using willow hoops and sinew or cord to weave the protective charm that is then suspended from the cradle board, where the cobweb’s holes allow positive thoughts to pass through and slide down the feathers to reach the sleeper below.

According to legend, good dreams pass through the central hole to the sleeper, while bad dreams are caught in the cobweb and disappear with the morning sun.

They are traditionally decorated with sacred items like beads and feathers

Dream catchers gained wider popularity during the North American indigenous Movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s, becoming sought-after Native crafts items in the 1980’s.

 The Coin:

Designed by Emily Kewageshig, the design brings out a representation of the dream-catcher tradition off-centred to the right.

On the Reverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars - CAN) Silver Proof Coin, the design presents a matriarch and creator of the dream-catcher seen near the lower half nurturing her child who has taken the form of the soaring Eagle that is a sacred connection to the Creator.

- Also included in the design are healing floral plants and wigwams representing community.

- The year "2025" is placed just under the intricately etched dream-catcher.

The Obverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars - CAN) Silver Proof Coin shows an effigy of Charles III facing left designed by Canadian artist Steven Rosati. On the outer periphery is the text - "CHARLES III CANADA D G REX."

The denomination of "20 DOLLARS" is placed below the the effigy along the lower periphery.
