Early Life:
Margot Friedländer was born Anni Margot Bendheim on 5 November 1921 in Berlin, Germany, into a Jewish family that owned a button factory in the Kreuzberg district.

She trained as a fashion illustrator and seamstress, but the rise of the Nazis in 1933 and increasing antisemitic policies disrupted her education and career.
By 1938, she witnessed the pogroms against Jewish shops and synagogues, marking the beginning of a period of intense persecution.
Holocaust Experience:
In January 1943, Margot’s brother Ralph was arrested by the Gestapo, and her mother surrendered herself to the authorities; both were later murdered in Auschwitz.
Margot narrowly escaped arrest and went into hiding in Berlin, moving between basements and attics, disguising herself with dyed hair and a crucifix to avoid detection blogs.
In April 1944, she was captured and deported to Theresienstadt concentration camp, where she survived the harsh conditions.
Post-War Life:
After liberation, Margot married fellow survivor Adolf Friedländer and emigrated to the United States in 1946.

Upon her return, she dedicated herself to Holocaust education, speaking to German youth about her experiences and the importance of human rights.
She established the Margot Friedländer Foundation at age 101, aimed at “speaking for those who can no longer speak”.
Advocacy and Legacy:
Even after turning 100, Friedländer remained active in classrooms and memorial events, emphasising her message: “Be human”.
She received numerous honors, including the Federal Cross of Merit, for her work against antisemitism and for promoting remembrance. Her life became a symbol of resilience, moral courage, and the power of memory as a form of resistance blogs.
Margot Friedländer passed away on 9 May 2025 at the age of 103 in her Berlin apartment, leaving behind a profound legacy as one of the last Holocaust survivors able to share her firsthand experiences. Her story continues to inspire education, reflection, and vigilance against hatred and intolerance.
Description Coin:
Anna Steinmann designed this coin, which does not require a portrait at all.
The Reverse of this 35 Euro Silver Coin shows a winding amber necklace as the central motif – the personal memento that Margot Friedländer received from her mother and that accompanied her throughout her life.
The seemingly randomly discarded chain is complemented by the quote "LOOK AT WHAT UNITES YOU".
("schaut was euch verbindet" in the centre of this face translates to "look at what connects you" or "see what unites you" in English.
The focus of the round of the coin is the dates "1921–2025" (her life years), while the name "MARGOT FRIEDLÄNDER" is arranged at the top of the coin.
In the lower part, dots complete the design into a harmonious ring shape.
The motif conveys one of Margot Friedländer's essential concerns in a subtle and at the same time haunting way and creates an impressive emotional closeness – even without a portrait.
The issuing Country - "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" is placed along the top edge.
On the inner side are 12 stars (7 on the one side and 5 on the other) representing the European Union arranged on each side in a semi-circle.
Below the eagle is the metal composition - "SILBER 925" and the "A" mintmark of the Berlin Mint is shown to the right of the eagle
