The 35 Euro Silver Coin highlights the contribution of two politicians Gustav Stresemann (Germany) and Aristide Briand (France), who were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926.
Background information:
In 1926, Gustav Stresemann and Aristide Briand jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize for their outstanding efforts to promote German-French understanding after the First World War.
Stresemann, German Foreign Minister, and Briand, his French counterpart, had taken a decisive step towards stabilising Europe with the Treaty of Locarno (1925).
Both politicians recognised that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, trust and cooperation.
The prize recognised their courage in overcoming previous enmities and creating a new basis for European cooperation.
Their work laid the foundation for a peace policy that shaped Europe in the long term and is considered the forerunner of today's European unification.
