3294) Spain: New €10 Silver Proof And Colour Coins Released To Celebrate National Football Team’s UEFA Victory: Date/Year of Coin issue: 24.07.2024:

The Real Casa de la Moneda has released new silver proof and colour collector coins celebrating their success at UEFA.

The UEFA Europa League trophy features prominently on the reverse design.

The triumph of Spain in the Euro 2024 final on the 14th July against England is not only a sporting victory, but also highlights the spirit of competition and brotherhood between nations

On the evening of the finals of UEFA in Berlin, the entire nation of Spain erupted into celebration when the Spanish Football team were victorious for a historic fourth time in the EUFA championships.

The month-long UEFA tournament began with Spain defeating their first national team, Croatia on the 15th June in Berlin.

From there, the Spanish national team were victorious in five further games, the last against France on the 9th July in Munich before reaching the finals. The opposing team would be England who reached the finals on the 10th July winning against the national team of the Netherlands.

The finals were held in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium with a full capacity of nearly 75,000 spectators and avid fans to watch the match between Spain, affectionately known as ‘La Roja’ and England who are known as the ‘Three Lions’

Spain controlled the game from the start, but it took until stoppage time at the end of the first half for either team to manage a shot on target.

England came from behind as they have done so often at UEFA, in the 73rd minute and their first goal of the game.

However, it was in the 86th minute that Spain scored their second goal which handed the national team a record fourth European Championship crown, and a third in the last five editions.

England had hoped to finally claim a first men's international title since their famed victory at the 1966 World Cup, but fell just short in their first ever final on foreign soil.

In the end, Spain were comfortably the best team over the last month in Germany and did not seem intimidated by the atmosphere at the Olympiastadion, where the majority of the crowd were given over to England's cause.

UEFA’s next tournament will be hosted by this year’s second place team, England who along with Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales will co-host from the 9th June to the 9th July 2028. Matches will be hosted across 10 stadiums, one each in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and six in England.

The Coin:

The €10 / 8 Reales silver proof and colour coin depicts the UEFA Europa League trophy off-centre to the right with a soccer ball shown to the right as background.

To the right of the trophy are the flags of participating national teams, which are shown in vivid colour. The commemorative inscription "CAMPEONES UEFA EURO 2024™" ("UEFA Euro 2024 Champions™").

The mintmark of the Real Casa, a "crowned M" is seen just to the lower left.

The Obverse of the €10 / 8 Reales silver proof and colour coin  includes an effigy of  King Felipe VI facing left which is the work of engraver Luis Jose Diaz Salas and introduced onto Spanish commemorative coinage last year.
