In 2014, the Perth Mint had released its first ever antiqued coins in the "Gods of Olympus Coin Series".
Now after the release of the Zeus Coins last year (2020), the second coin in the Series - Poseidon - has been released in 2021 and for the first time ever, the Series continues with the issue - in a dual finish by the Perth Mint - both Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) and Antiqued Finish (AF) Silver $5 Variant, along with a $100 Gold Coin.
About Poseidon:
In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was worshipped as the God of the Sea.
Historically, Poseidon was always portrayed as a mature man with a fully-grown beard, and equipped with his best known weapon, the trident, which he used to shake the earth, shatter rocks and create storms, causing devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. His other symbols include a bull, dolphins, horse and fish.
Poseidon was one of six children and the second of three brothers, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, born to Rhea and Cronus, the ruler of the Titans. Having overthrown their father, the three brothers divided the universe between them. Zeus took control of the heavens, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld.
The Coin:
This Coin is the second in a new series and the second dual release from the Perth Mint, Australia to be minted in both Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) and Antique Finish (AF) qualities.
On the Reverse of the $100 (One Hundred Dollars) Gold and $5 (Five Dollar) Silver Coins is depicted a bearded Poseidon riding on his chariot pulled by two hippocampi, clutching his trident, with dolphins frolicking in the background.
The inscriptions are - "POSEIDON" (at the bottom periphery) and the Perth Mint's mint mark "P", (at left centre).
The peripheral inscriptions are - ELIZABETH II. FIVE DOLLARS. TUVALU. 2021. 5 Oz. 9999 Ag" or "QUEEN ELIZABETH II. 100 DOLLARS. TUVALU. 2021. 1 Oz.9999 GOLD. 2021".
