First Battalion The Naga Regiment (DRAS): (50th Anniversary) Celebrations: A Special Cover (SC):

On the front of the Special Cover is a photograph of Officers of the Battalion. Above that is the insignia of the Battalion and citations.

At the top right is a cancelled 500 Paise (Rs.5/-) postage stamp affixed above the address - C/O 99 APO. dated 01.11.2024

The Back of the Special Cover (SC) gives the serial no. of the Cover as APS/53/2024 on top. At the bottom is the issuing authority - Addl. Dte Gen APS C/0 APO.

The Information Brochure gives the following description:

" 1 NAGA (DRAS):

1. The Sixteen-Point Proposal which the delegates of the Naga People's Convention placed before the Committee on 26 July 1960 led to the birth of the Naga Regiment on 01 November 1970 at Ranikhet. THe Battalion participated in Operation CACTUS LILY (Eastern Front) as the youngest Battalion and proived its mettle. The Battalion received its "Colours" in 1976 by the then President of India Shri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy.

2. In the years to follow, the unit served in all major Operations of the Indian Army and performed commendably in all spheres. The Battalion during its tenure in Operation RAKSHAK (J&K) in 1998-1999, neuteralised 18 terrorists in Counter insurgency operations and was later awarded with GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit Appreciation.

On 11 May 1999, the Battalion was inducted into DRAS sector and was straightaway launched into operations. The path breaking endeavours in Operation VIJAY were recognised and the Battalion was honoured with Battle Honour "DRAS" and Theatre Honour "KARGIL" in 2005.

The Battalion was deployed in Central Glacier in Siachen from January to June 2000. During the tenure in counter insurgency operations at Goalpara (Assam) from 2004-2006 the Battalion executed a number of successful operations. For its spectacular success in the tenure, the Battalion was awarded with 02 Shaurya Chakras, 10 Sena Medals and 33 Commendation Cards and was also presented with "Fight to win" Trophy by Gen JJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Chief of Army Staff.

On 01 October 2009, the third Battalion of the Naga Regiment was raised. During Operation RAKSHAK (Naugam Sector in J&K) in 2009-12, 1 NAGA (DRAS) conducted several successful operations and was honoured once again with GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit Appreciation in 2013.

In the succeeding peace tenure in Bakloh (Himachal Pradesh) from 2015-18, the Battalion undertook a number of challenging patrols in high altitude terrain and established the Training Node for Joint Training with FFCs.

In 2015 to 2018 the unit was deployed in difficult conditions and inclement weather of Nyukmadung (Arunachal Pradesh) and it conducted its tasks as "Nodal Agency" for the conduct of Mountaineering Expedition to Mt Gorichen, which is the third highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh.

In 2018 to 2021 at Kota the Battalion continued to excel in all spheres and was awarded with 17 GOC-in-C Commendation Cards including 13 on the spot and one COAS Commendation Card.

From 2021-23 the Battalion served in SHAA (Eastern Ladakh) during which the battalion proved its exceptional ability and successfully completed the Stock Kangri Mountaineering Expedition and in the year 2024 the unit was awarded GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit appreciation for a third time.

3. The Battalion also has the unique distinction of three of its Commanding officers rising up to the rank of Lieutenant General who have served as the Colonel of the Regiment of Kumaun & Naga Regt and Kumaun Scouts.

4. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebrated on 01 Nov 2024, the Army Postal Service has brought out a Special cover with Special Cancellation and a Brochure.
