The Header/Banner showcases the Reverses oof the three Coin Variants - Gold, Silver and Base Metal against a background representation of Oscar Peterson performing on a piano.

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued new commemorative coins in honour of one of the greatest musicians the world has ever seen — Canada’s Oscar Peterson.

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson CC CQ OOnt (15.08.1925 – 23.12.2007) was a Canadian virtuoso jazz pianist and composer.

He released over 200 recordings, won seven Grammy Awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, and received numerous other awards and honours

He is considered to be one of history's great jazz pianists and played thousands of concerts worldwide in a career lasting more than 60 years

He was called the "Maharaja of the Keyboard" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and informally in the jazz community as "the King of inside swing".

The Coin:

On the Reverse of the Gold, Silver and Base Metal Coins is featured Oscar Peterson at the piano, appropriately with his hands in full motion.

From Peterson’s hands emerges a flowing musical scale showing two closing bars of his famous Hymn to Freedom.

The inscription "CANADA" appears above the depiction of Peterson at the piano, with his name "OSCAR PETERSON" just underneath, and the denomination of "200 DOLLARS" (Gold), "20 DOLLARS" (Silver), or "DOLLAR" (Base Metal) along the lower edge completes the design.

The colour-enhanced $1 (One Dollar) Coin features Oscar Peterson’s favourite colour of purple and also includes a latent image of a maple leaf integrated into the design.

The Obverse side of all the variants features a right facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
