2508) A Tribute to the Life of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) featuring "The Royal Cipher", British Antarctic Territory (BAT), "Proclamation", South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands (SG & SSI), "Double Portrait", Falkland Islands: Pobjoy Mint, UK has brought out a limited edition 3-Coin 50 Pence Set with Pearl Black Finish and Privy Mark: Year of Coin issue: 2022:

As a tribute of the life of the Late Queen Elizabeth II, Pobjoy Mint has released a limited edition 3-coin set of only 1,000 pieces, which features Pobjoy's Pearl Black Finish/Effect with a special Privy Mark shown as "1926-2022".

The Obverses of all coins feature an effigy of Late Queen Elizabeth II, minted exclusively by Pobjoy Mint which will also be blackened. 

This set has been issued on behalf of various British Overseas Governments (BOGs) - Falklands, British Antarctic Territory (BAT) and the South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands (SG & SSI).

The set features - "The Royal Cypher", "Double Portrait" and "Proclamation" - all in denominations of 50p (Pence) each. 

The details of the individual Coins are:

i) The Royal Cypher 50p (Pence) issued on behalf of the British Antarctic Territory (BAT):

 This coin depicts a central design of the Royal Cypher “EIIR” standing for Elizabeth II Regina. 

The design is surrounded by a rose, (representing England), a daffodil, (representing Wales), a thistle, (representing Scotland), and shamrocks, (representing Northern Ireland). 

ii) Proclamation 50p (Pence) issued on behalf of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands:

Following the death of her father, after meeting with the new Queen at St James’s Palace on the morning of 08.02, the scroll containing the official Accession Proclamation was read to the public by the Garter King of Arms, Sir George Bellew. 

The coin depicts a ribbon representing the scroll in the centre with trumpets of the Royal Heralds at each side. The inscription on the ribbon reads "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" as that is how the proclamation ended. 

iii) Double Portrait 50p (Pence), issued on behalf of the Falkland Islands:  

Mary Gaskell Gillick's design of Queen Elizabeth II portrayed the Queen uncrowned and was the last to be used on the pre-decimal coinage. 

This coin features a double portrait of the Queen including the first and current effigy used in coinage over 70 years of service. The first effigy designed by Mary Gillick and the current effigy has been designed by Pobjoy Mint.
