This Stamp is the first stamp is a special series highlighting Spain’s rare sequence of eclipses between 2026 and 2028, known as the “Eclipse Trio.”

We are watching "Smallville" a television Series spanning several seasons in which "Superman" is shown coming to Earth as a child in a spacecraft from the destroyed/obliterated Planet - "KRYPTON" in a meteor shower and being adopted by his adoptive parents - "The Kents".

When I read about this event taking place - bringing about a TOTAL SOLAR Eclipse together with a Meteor Shower, I couldn't help but research/write this story:

Between 2026 and 2028, Spain will be the stage for three highly significant solar eclipses: a total eclipse on August 12, 2026, another total eclipse on August 2, 2027, and an annular eclipse on January 26, 2028.

This set of phenomena, known as the "Eclipse Trio," is an extraordinarily rare occurrence.

The event coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, offering a rare astronomical double feature.

Total solar eclipses are among the most extraordinary natural phenomena that can be observed from Earth. 

For a few minutes, the Moon completely obscures the solar disk, transforming the landscape in a way that is difficult to describe: the light dims, the temperature drops, stars and planets appear in broad daylight, and the solar corona, normally invisible, is revealed in all its splendor. 

This combination of beauty, emotion, and scientific value has fascinated humanity since antiquity.

Furthermore, throughout history, eclipses have played a significant role in the advancement of astronomy and physics. They have allowed scientists to study the Sun's outer atmosphere, discover new phenomena, and test fundamental theories.

Thanks to this exceptional "Trio of Eclipses," Spain has become one of the world's leading centres for eclipse observation, attracting scientists, enthusiasts, and visitors from numerous countries.

But the true value of these eclipses extends far beyond the astronomical phenomena themselves and the unforgettable experiences they provide.Spain will experience a total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, with totality visible in northern and central regions, lasting up to 1 minute 50 seconds depending on location.

Overview:

The total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, will sweep across northern Spain, including Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country, Castile and León, Aragon, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands, as part of a path that also touches Greenland and Iceland

This is the first total eclipse visible from mainland Spain since 1959 in the Canary Islands and the first in Europe in nearly three decades/

The event coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, offering a rare astronomical double feature.

Timing and Duration:

Partial eclipse begins: 7:30–7:44 PM CEST depending on location

Totality begins: 8:26–8:33 PM CEST

Totality ends: 8:29–8:33 PM CEST

Partial eclipse ends: 8:46–9:27 PM WEST

Longest totality: Oviedo and Gijón in Asturias, approximately 1 minute 48 seconds

Sun altitude: Very low, between 2° and 10° above the western horizon, creating a “Sunset Totality” effect

Major cities like Madrid and Barcelona will experience a deep partial eclipse (over 99%) but are outside the path of totality, so observers are encouraged to travel north into the totality corridor for the full experience.

Best Viewing Locations:

Northern Coast: Gijón, Santander – flat western horizon over the Bay of Biscay

High Plains: Burgos, Palencia – open fields of the Meseta with unobstructed views

Ebro Valley: Zaragoza – historical architecture combined with darkening sky

Mediterranean Coast: Castellón, Tarragona – totality occurs just before sunset

Balearic Islands: Palma de Mallorca – final locations to witness totality

Weather Considerations:

Northern and central Spain generally offer clear, dry skies in August

Northern Atlantic coast (Asturias, Cantabria, A Coruña) may experience sea mist or higher cloud cover (~60%)

Interior plains (Castile and León) have the best odds for clear skies, with cloud cover probability below 20%

Safety and Equipment:

ISO 12312-2 certified solar eclipse glasses are required for the partial phases

Glasses can be removed only during totality when the Sun is completely covered

Tripods and low-angle photography setups are recommended due to the Sun’s low altitude

Solar filters must be used on telescopes, binoculars, or cameras until totality

Viewing Experience:

During totality, the sky will darken, temperatures may drop, and the solar corona will become visible. Observers may also witness Baily’s beads and the diamond ring effect just before and after totality

The low Sun near the horizon enhances the visual spectacle, framing the eclipsed Sun against Spanish landscapes or the ocean

Spain is considered the best location along the 2026 eclipse path due to favorable weather, accessibility, and the unique “Sunset Totality” phenomenon, making it a prime destination for eclipse chasers and astronomers alike.
