3143) "Cows - Typically Dutch", Netherlands: PostNL (Netherlands Post) has issued a Postage Stamp of ‘Nederland 1’ in its "Typically Dutch Stamp Series", which commenced in 2020: Date of Stamp issue: 02.01.2024:
PostNL released the Typical Dutch - Cows stamp sheetlet on 02.01.2024.
The issue is the 1st of this year in the Typically Dutch series. The multi-year series started in 2020 and will be dedicated in 2024 to the animals we know best and are closest to us.
The 6 identical stamps have value 1 for mail up to and including 20 grams with a destination within the Netherlands.
The design of Typical Dutch - cows was created by Adam Lane, executive creative director Edwin van Praet and concept director Huub van Veenhuijzen of Total Design from Amsterdam. With the help of artificial intelligence, they made a design with statues in the shape of Delft blue pottery.
In the Typically Dutch series, stamp sheets will appear later this year on the subjects of dogs (February 12), horses (March 25), songbirds (May 13) and cats (August 12).
About Typical Dutch - Cows:
Cattle have been kept as pets by humans for a long time, probably for more than 10,000 years.
Due to long-term domestication and breeding programs, many different breeds have emerged.
The cattle are descended from the aurochs, a wild bovine that became extinct in the Middle Ages.
Cattle farming has become one of the most important sources of meat, milk and leather for humans.
Bovine terminology is as follows -
a female bovine is called a cow,
a male bovine is called a bull,
a young bovine is a cow or bull calf,
a pinkie is a one-year-old bovine, and
a heifer is a cow that has calved for the first time.
In the Netherlands, about 3.8 million cattle are registered, including 1.6 million dairy cows (CBS figures 2022). The average dairy farm has 110 dairy cows and 58 female young stock.
