4564) La Caverne du Pont-Neuf (The Cave of the Pont-Neuf), Republique Francaise (Republic of France): La Poste, France (French Post) has issued a postage stamp of 3.10 Euro depicting this iconic art-work of Jean-Rene (JR): Date/Year of Stamp issue: 15.06.2026:
On June 15, 2026, La Poste (the French postal service) issued a stamp in its art series, featuring JR's artwork "The Cave of the Pont-Neuf," a work by the renowned trompe-l'œil artist.
Through his monumental works, JR invites passersby to question their perceptions.
From the Parisian suburbs to the favelas of Brazil, from the US-Mexico border to the separation wall between Israelis and Palestinians, from the Louvre to the inside of a Californian prison, his installations share a common mission: to amplify the voices of ordinary people and foster dialogue.
For JR, art aims to make us see the familiar in a new light. His artistic approach is unifying. His participatory art project, Inside Out, has already allowed more than 600,000 people in 152 countries to express themselves through large-format black and white portraits.
With his Trompe-l’œil series, JR intervenes on iconic architectural landmarks.
In 2021, he opened up the Palazzo Strozzi (Florence) and the Palazzo Farnese (Rome) through anamorphic illusions.
In 2023, with Retour à la Caverne (Return to the Cave), the façade of the Palais Garnier was transformed into a monumental grotto, evoking Plato’s allegory and questioning our way of seeing the world. The work revealed the world of dance and opera to passersby.
In 2026, with La Caverne du Pont-Neuf (The Cave of the Pont-Neuf), JR transformed Paris’s oldest bridge into a place of exploration in the heart of the City of Lights. He paid homage to the vision of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, forty years after the artist couple wrapped the bridge. Visitors were invited to walk through this monumental mineral formation inspired by the quarries from which the stones used to build Paris came.
- By placing his work on a stamp, JR is investing in a new medium and thus extending his reflection on circulation, passage and connection.
About Jean-Rene (JR):
Jean-René, better known simply as JR, is widely lauded as a master of contemporary street art. Coming to the fore at the beginning of the 21st century, he has since gained international success for his monumental photographic collages that have transformed everyday Jean urban spaces into public art galleries.
Combining art with global activism, his collages are exemplars of multiculturalism; collaborative projects that give a face and a voice to otherwise voiceless individuals and communities, with the result of inspiring social cohesion and cross-cultural communication.
Adding to his street collages, he has masterminded breathtaking photographic trompe-l'oeil public art installations in prominent venues such as New York and Paris.
JR has also cultivated a high profile public persona, always appearing in interviews wearing his iconic black sunglasses and stylish fedora hat.
La Caverne du Pont Neuf is
now open:
The artwork pays tribute to Christo and Jeanne-Claude's The Pont Neuf Wrapped, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025.
This is a NEUF time-limited opportunity for Parisians and
visitors to experience an ephemeral reimagining of the city's oldest bridge.
The project is facilitated by L’Amicale des Ponts de Paris endowment fund.
The installation will not use any government sources. It is funded by the sale of JR's works along with private support, including Snap Inc., Bloomberg Philanthropies, Paris Aéroport, and Salesforce.
Beyond the Pont Neuf, the
installation is visible across the city — on foot or by bike, from the Seine's
quays and its bridges, or from the water by boat.
