Launched in 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) reflects India’s unwavering commitment in ensuring that every pregnant woman receives quality antenatal care and timely specialist support during pregnancy.

The programme is organised on the 9th day of every month as a dedicated day for comprehensive antenatal care services, enabling early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies and strengthening the journey towards safe motherhood.

Over the past decade, PMSMA has evolved into a nationwide movement that has brought quality antenatal services closer to women and strengthened the continuum of care for mothers and newborns across the country.

The Postage Stamp:

- The Commemorative Postage Stamp embodies care, protection and hope. The number “9” represents both the fixed day of service delivery under PMSMA and the nine months of pregnancy, reflecting the programme’s commitment to supporting women throughout their maternal journey.

- The stamp highlights the resilience of mothers and the dedication of doctors, nurses, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and healthcare workers who work tirelessly to safeguard two lives at a time.

- Bhartiya Dak/India Post has released this Commemorative Postage Stamp marking ten years of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan. The stamp honours a decade of collective commitment towards safe motherhood and celebrates the collective efforts that continue to make motherhood safer and give every newborn a healthier start to life.
