Battalion History: Glance through Glorious Memoir:

1. On the auspicious day of 01.10.1964 "Tenacious Tenth" saw the dawn of its being at Morar Cantt, Gwalior under Lt Col Mahatam Singh, who later went on to earn MVC in 1967.

The Battalion incidentally drew its first blood on its third anniversary, i.e. 01.Oct 1967, by giving a bloody teeth to the Chinese aggression at Cho La (a pass in the Himalayas at a height of 15450 ft) thereby crushing the myth of Chinese invincibility.

For this gallant act by its Spartan troops, the Battalion was awarded 01 MVC and 3 VCs

2. Destiny gave the Battalion another chance to prove its mettle, this time teaching the Pakistanis a lesson in the Indo-Pak War in 1971 (Op Cactus Lily), wherein the Battalion was awarded 01 VC and 4 Mention-in-Dispatches.

In the year 1991-92, the Battalion was deployed in Assam for conducting Counter Insurgency Operations (Op Bajrang & Op Rhino). Here, once again, the Battalion proved its tenacity for which it was awarded COAS Unit Citation and was among the first units to have been thus honoured.

3. In 1992 the Battalion was deployed in Doda district when the militancy was at its peak in J&K. The Battalion performed outstandingly and was awarded with 02 Sena Medals, 05 COAS Commendation and 05 GOC-in-C Commendations.

4. The call for the "Shikaris" from Kashmir valley came for the first time in 2001, wherein the Battalion not only proved its operational worth but also displayed its humane face by winning the hearts and minds of the local populace and thereby earning 04 Sena Medals, 15 COAS Commendations and o1 Mention-in=dispatch.

The Battalion was also awarded with J&K Governor's appreciation for smooth & peaceful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra for the first time in 2003.

5. The tenacity of "Tenacious Tenth" was never questionable however, over the years the nickname seemed very common, hence the unit's nickname was re-designated as "Cho La Warriors" in 2009.

Living up to the true traditions of Indian Army - "Naam, Namak aur Nishan", the Cho La EWarriors have responded to the clarion call of duty in the service of the nation whenever, wherever and whatever be the circumstances.

6. The Battalion then moved to Sri Ganganagar wherein it carried out a plethora of training activities. Apart from this, the Battalion did exceedingly well in sports & professional activities and also secured overall 3rd position in Div Banner Championship in a short span of 10 months after induction. In addition to this, the Battalion was also ranked 3rd in COR J&K RIF & Ladakh Scouts Banner 2018.

7. The call from the North came again wherein the Battalion was deployed in the highly active field area of J&K. There, the unit also enhanced its overall Operational capability and professional excellence even in the hostile environment.

The unit was also involved in Op Sadbhavana activities which had a major impact amongst locals.

In all the Battalion earned 02 COAS Commendation and 29 GOC-in -C NC Commendations. For its professional conduct of the highest order, the Cho-La Warriors were conferred with GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit Appreciation.

8. The Battaliobn completed 60 Years of dustinguished and dedicated service to the nation on 01 October 2024.

To commemorate the historic day and to accord recognition to the outstanding services rendered by the "Cho La Warriors" to the Nation, thye Army Postal Service has issued this special postal cover Cancellation and Brochure.
