The Monnaie de Paris has issued the sixth design which is part of the collector coin series entitled “Aviation and Its History.”

Starting in 2017, the collection when completed will consist of a coin series on aviation throughout the decades since manned flight began and is designed as a tribute to the aircraft that have made the most impact in the History of Aviation.

From the Spirit of Saint Louis to the most modern aircraft such as the A380, all eras and types of aircraft will be presented

The Header/Banner shows the Obverses and Reverses of the "Rafale Marine" Gold and Silver Coins against a background of the iconic aircraft parked and in flight

For 2022, the design features the "Rafale Marine", (which translates to “Navy Surge" - Also Rafale stands for "Gust of Wind" or "Burst of Fire") which is an iconic aircraft of the French Navy.

This combat aircraft developed for the French Navy and Air Force was delivered on the 18.05.2001 and entered service in 2002 first beginning with the navy.

Presently, the Rafale is being produced for both the French Air Force and for carrier-based operations in the French Navy.

It is a French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation. Equipped with a wide range of weapons, the Rafale is intended to perform air supremacy, interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, ground support, in-depth strike, anti-ship strike and nuclear deterrence missions. The Rafale is referred to as an "omnirole" aircraft.

Many of the aircraft's avionics and features, such as direct voice input, the RBE2 AA active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar and the optronique secteur frontal infra-red search and track (IRST) sensor, were domestically developed in France and produced for the Rafale programme.

The Coin:

The distinctive and unique designs on both the Obverse and Reverse faces have been the creation of Romain Hugault, a recognised specialist both in the world of aviation and in the world of comics, under the artistic direction of Joaquin Jimenez, senior engraver.

The whole series shares a common Obverse which depicts the profiles of two pilots symbolising different eras, both civilian and military aviation.

Several airplane models are represented in flight, also marking different eras and uses as a tribute to the history of the airplane.

The face value is shown at the bottom left, as well as, the initials "RF", which represents "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" (the name of the issuing country).

The Reverse of the 50 & 10 Euro Silver and 50 Euro Gold Coins includes a powerful representation of a Rafale in full approach with its landing hook deployed.

In the background, the aircraft carrier is shown in the open sea. The naval aviation rosette is depicted in horizontal and vertical lines around the perimeter and as a backdrop.

The logo of the Rafale is affixed to the marine’s anchor.

The year of issue 2022 is seen just under the fly tail of the Rafale in flight.

  3. Yes, Ajai. This controversy was cleared by the Supreme Court as having no basis. It is one of the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. It is now inducted in several Air Forces of various countries. India has two squadrons one in the Eastern sector and one in the Western sector.
