2926) The Coronation of King Charles III, United Kingdom: Gold and Silver Bullion Coins issued by the Royal Mint (UK) celebrate the event: Date /Year of Coins issue: 06.05.2023:

The Header/Banner showcases the Reverse of the Gold Bullion Coin at left and the Reverse and Obverse of the Silver Bullion Coin at right against a background image of Charles III wearing the crown. At bottom right is the logo of the Royal Mint.

The Reverse of the Gold and Silver Bullion Coins along with the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross, which was created for King Charles II's 1661 coronation, represents "the sovereign's temporal power and is associated with good governance." It has been used in every coronation since 1661.

The Royal Mint has released new gold and silver bullion quality coin variants which depict the coronation of King Charles III, who took over the British throne on the 08.09.2022

The Coronation of King Charles III took place at Westminster Abbey in London on the 06.05.2023

The coronation ceremony involves six key rituals, which are all equally important and which begin with the rite of recognition, the swearing of the coronation oath by the sovereign, the anointing with holy oil by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the investiture and crowning with St. Edward’s Crown

The enthronement concluded a religious ceremony.

As is tradition, the King returned to Buckingham Palace, where he appeared on the palace balcony to his well-wishers.

The Coronation Coin:

A new effigy for British Coinage designed by Martin Jennings was unveiled at the end of September last year.

For the coronation year, a commemorative effigy was minted, which shows the King wearing a crown.

It is the first time since the coinage of Queen Victoria that the monarch is depicted crowned

As is tradition since the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, the King is shown facing to the left in the alternate the direction from his predecessor - Late Queen Elzabeth II facing right

The Obverse and Reverse of the Gold and Silver Bullon Coin Variants placed side-by-side.

The Obverses of all the Gold and Silver Coin variants bear the legend surrounding the King’s effigy which reads "CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D" (which translates to “Charles III, by the Grace of God King, Defender of the Faith”).

The denotation of defender of the faith refers to the British sovereign as head of the Church of England.

Additionally, the denomination of the coin is shown from "2 POUNDS to 100 POUNDS".

The Reverse of all the Gold and Silver Coin variants is designed by John Bergdahl and features the royal cypher comprised of the initials "C" and "R" along with the Roman numeral III (in the centre).

The cypher is crowned and flanked on each side with a laurel wreath. The commemorative inscription reads -"THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III 6 MAY 2023."

Each coin includes an additional security feature of micro-text of the commemorative inscription along with the coin’s weight and fineness repeated and placed around the rim of both the gold and silver coins.
