About Andorra Comapedrosa - La Massana Starlight:

This 2025 in the philatelic series dedicated to reproducing on stamps the PAISATGES of the Principality of Andorra has been captured on a Comapedrosa La Massana Starlight block sheet where a foil halo highlights the streaky sky.

Comapedrosa La Massana is a unique space for astronomical observation located in the parish of La Massana, in Andorra, specifically in the Valls del Comapedrosa Communal Natural Park. Recognised as a Starlight destination in 2023, this enclave is characterised by low light pollution, allowing you to enjoy a breathtaking view of the starry sky.

This place is ideal for astronomy and nature lovers, offering a magical experience under the stars, in a high mountain environment surrounded by tranquillity and natural beauty.

Starlight Tourist Destinations are places that can be visited, that have very good qualities for starry sky contemplation and that, being protected from light pollution, are particularly suitable for developing tourist activities based on this natural resource.

Starlight Tourist Destinations must not only accredit the quality of their skies and the means to guarantee their protection, but also the appropriate infrastructures and activities related to the tourist offer (accommodation, observation facilities available for visitors, training of staff in charge of astronomical interpretation, etc.) and their integration into the night-time natural environment. If the site does not yet have these infrastructures and activities, the Foundation assesses the project to develop them in the future.

The Starlight Tourism Certification Scheme was created with the aim of promoting, at a global level, the improvement of the quality of tourism experiences and the protection of night skies in Starlight Destinations. The criteria were established in December 2010, at the UNWTO Centre in Madrid, with representatives from UNESCO, UNESCO-Mab and IAC.

Starlight as a whole is an integrated action of UNESCO and is supported by the IAU and UNWTO, emerging from the IAC.

Certification as a Starlight Tourist Destination requires following a specific procedure established by the Starlight Foundation.
