The coin is one the first issued under King Leopold II and can be purchased in two versions: a Flemish and a French edition.
Original Belgium coins in Coincard:
The 1 cent Flemish was issued first in 1887 and after that also in 1894, 1899, 1901, 1902 and 1907.
The 1 centime in French 1869 – 1907 is even older. This coin is one of the few that only changed when a new King came along.
Both coins were designed by Joseph Pierre Braemt -the Reverse shows the Belgian Lion, its paw resting on the Constitution Table from 1831.
The coin has no privy mark or mint mark. Both coins are strictly limited as a coincard edition.
Please note: the coins are over 100 years old and have taken part in payment transactions, they are therefore not flawless and may have discolouration.
Following the successful first issue of the original historical Belgian 1 franc coin 1950 - 1988 in coincard, the honour now falls to a very special cent! The 1 cent 1869 - 1907 is now available in both language versions in quadrilingual coincard!
The 1 cent Belgium 1887-1907 and the 1 centime Belgique 1869 - 1907 is one of the few coins that only changed when a new king came in. AND which had no predecessor!
The French edition is the oldest, it was issued in: 1869, 1870, 1873, 1874, 1875, 1876, 1882, 1899, 1901, 1902 and 1907. The Flemish edition circulated in: 1887, 1894, 1899, 1901, 1902 and 1907.
The Coins:
The coin, designed by Joseph Pierre Braemt, shows on the Reverse the Belgian Lion with his paw on the 1831 constitution table.

Text: on the Centime in French: "L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE, CONSTITUTION BELGE 1831, 1 CENTe, BRAEMT F.."
The Dutch variant reads in Dutch: "EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT, BELGISCHE."
