The Farewell NAf is a comemorative coin that was minted to mark the end of the Netherlands Antillean guilder (NAf) and its replacement by the Caribbean guilder. The coin was minted by the Royal Dutch Mint (KNM) in Houten, the Netherlands.
The Commemorative Coin:
The Reverse of the 5 Gulider Brass Plated Steel (BPS) Coin with five birds depicted on Netherlands Antillean banknotes, including the hummingbird, flamingo, Andean sparrow, bananaquit, and Caribbean mockingbird.
The sides and bottom of the coin feature farewell words in three languages.
In English 'Farewell NAf', in Dutch 'Vaarwel NAf' and in Papiamento 'Avó NAf'.
The Obverse of the 5 Guilder BPS Coin features the Coat of Arms of the Netherlands Antilles with '5 G' on either side, indicating the value: 5 guilders.
The year "2024" is at the bottom.
Significance:
This is the last Netherlands Antillean coin minted for Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The Caribbean guilder will replace the NAf as the currency on March 31, 2025.
