The Native American Mint’s coin sets honoring different tribes continues with the 2024 Creek Tribe Set. Long before America was a nation of states, it was a nation of tribes.

About the "Creek" Culture and History:

The Creek Tribe originally lived in the Southeastern Woodlands.

Also known as the "Muscogee", their territory included parts of Northern Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Southern Tennessee.

For most of Georgia’s colonial period, Creeks outnumbered both European colonists and enslaved Africans and occupied more land than these newcomers.

Not until the 1760s did the Creeks become a minority population in Georgia. They ceded the balance of their lands to the new state in the 1800s.

The Creeks are famous for the large earthen pyramids they erected along the rivers where they lived as part of their elaborate ceremonial complexes.

They were a sedentary people who lived in villages of thatched-hut houses with a town square that served as the center of community activities like dances and meetings.
