2338) "Honey Bee Industry", Australia: Bicentenary of the Australian Honey Bee Council (1822-2022): Royal Australian Mint (RAM) in collaboration with the Honey Bee Industry Council has issued $2 (Two Dollars) Aluminium-Bronze Commemorative Coins: Year of Coin issue: 2022:

The Royal Australian Mint (RAM), in collaboration with the Australian Honey Bee Industry Council, has released new $2 colour coins which pays a tribute to the Honey Bee and Australia’s honey bee industry.

The Header/Banner shows a Honey Bee working in its hive at right. At left is seen the Reverse of the Aluminium-Bronze Coin. The background gives an impression of honey.

2022 marks the bicentenary of the establishment of the industry when in 1822 the European honey bee was successfully introduced and adapted to Australia’s climate and flora.

These industrious insects have been solely responsible for producing the majority of Australian honey.

Interestingly, while there are more than 1,500 species of native Australian honeybees, they tend to produce far less honey than the introduced European species.

The Coin:

On the Reverse of the $2 (Two Dollars) Aluminium-Bronze Coin, in the centre is featured a honeycomb sphere illuminated in a golden yellow colour.

Around the edge of the honeycomb are two European honey bees alongside a selection of native Australian flora including branches, flowers, and leaves of the eucalyptus tree.

Below the primary design is the coins’ denomination "TWO DOLLARS" and seen to the upper-left is the text "HONEY BEE".

A "C" mintmark representing Canberra is also included and placed just to the upper-right on the design.

On the Obverse of the $2 (Two Dollars) Aluminium-Bronze Coin is seen an effigy of  Elizabeth II facing right designed by Jody Clark, whose initials "JC" appear on the effigy's neck.

The year "2022" is also shown in the legend above the effigy.

The specification of the Alumium-Bronze Coin are:

Country of issue: Australia; Date/Year: 2022; Coin Series Theme: "Bicentenary of establishment of Honey Bee Industry Council in Australia (1822-2022)"; Coin Theme: "Honey Bee"; Denomination/Face Value: $2 (Two Dollars); Metal Composition: Aluminium Bronze; Weight: 6.60 grams; Diameter/Size: 20.50 mm;  Coin Quality: Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) with applied colour; Mint: Royal Australian Mint (RAM); Mintage: 60,000 pieces; Designer:  Aleksandra Stokic.
