The Stamp of 1.96 Euros.
On October 14, 2024,La Poste has issued a stamp with an attached vignette on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine and its 45th World Congress.
In the midst of "prohibition", after the phylloxera disaster that devastated the vineyard, at the end of a crisis of overproduction and poor sales of wines, after a world war and a pandemic, on November 29, 1924, in Paris, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and Tunisia created the International Wine Office.
Their objective, through the definition of wine and the repression of fraud and unfair competition, is to guarantee the purity and authenticity of wine up to the consumer.
Having become the International Office of Vine and Wine in 1958, the OIV has extended its expertise to all vine products, from fresh fruit to spirits, from raisins to unfermented beverages, and has expanded its mission worldwide with members from five continents.
Following a reform adopted in 2001, 50 countries representing more than 75% of the world's vineyards and nearly 90% of world wine production are celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the International Organization of Vine and Wine in 2024.
In one century, thousands of renowned scientists in viticulture, oenology, economics, law, medicine, statistics and human sciences have contributed, with nearly 1,500 recommendations, to developing a genuine global corpus of vine and wine.
The OIV has become the intergovernmental scientific and technical reference for the sector by indicating to its members the measures aimed at improving the conditions for the development and marketing of wine products and taking into account the interests of consumers, whether through cooperation with other international organizations or through the international harmonization of existing practices and standards.
By setting up in Dijon, in a historic landmark of the city of Dijon recognized by UNESCO for its cultural, wine, gastronomic and academic heritage, the OIV is inaugurating a new century of activities at the service of the global community of vines and wine.
