Steampunk is a sub-genre of Science Fiction that incorporates retro-futuristic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.

Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American "Wild West", where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Steampunk most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them — distinguishing it from Neo-Victorianism — and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.

Such technologies may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne.

Other examples of steampunk contain alternative-history-style presentations of such technology as steam cannons, lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage's "Analytical Engine".

Steampunk also, incorporates additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre.

As a form of speculative fiction, it explores alternative futures or pasts but can also address real-world social issues.

The first known appearance of the term steampunk was in 1987, though it now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created as far back as the 1950s or earlier.

A popular subgenre is Japanese steampunk, consisting of steampunk-themed manga and anime, with steampunk elements having appeared in mainstream manga since the 1940s.

Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century. Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

Present Day:

Steampunk has become a cultural phenomenon.

Having an impact on everything from film to fashion, this subculture of Science Fiction has grown in popularity and influence since it was first mentioned in the 1980s. Loosely defined as combining Victorian age mechanical technology with modern applications, its unique look can be seen everywhere.

In a nutshell Steampunk is what people thought about the future with their knowledge and techniques 200 years ago.

The Silver Coin:

With the fourth edition of the Steampunk Coin Series, we delve into a retro-science laboratory where Victorian elegance meets scientific marvels, which offers a veritable playground for the curious mind.

Amid shelves of weathered books and potions, we meet a dashing scientist tinkering with devices and ideas, whose knowledge is only rivaled by his splendid moustache.

Amongst the numerous characters in this scene, we also come across the series’ regular – the penny-farthing.

This time ridden by a scientist with a distinguished fashion taste, navigating past screws, pipes, and tools on the workbench.

The Reverse of the $20 Silver Coin inter alia showing the High Relief of the Coin

The first three issues of Coin Invest Trust (CIT's) Steampunk Coin, was extremely popular. This is the fourth Coin of the series.

The Reverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars) Silver Coin.

This Coin, like its predecessor, brings in a lot of details, surreal elements and hidden allusions to a retro-science lab.

The scientist is working on his experiments in his laboratory, as a wise owl sits on his reference book symbolising wisdom in the scientist's experiments. There is a quill pen in an inkpot, pipes, and experimental bicycle, bottles of liquids, a clock showing the time as 2.30, a grinder etc.

On the back wall the year is shown as "2023".

The Obverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars) Silver Coin
