The 2023 limited edition collection marked a poignant farewell to an era with the final release of Gibraltar’s cherished round pound. This commemorative series celebrated the historical significance of the traditional design. 

Looking ahead, the 2024 annual issue heralded an exciting new chapter in Gibraltar’s numismatic evolution. 

- For the first time, this issue introduced a striking 12-sided bi-metal £1 coin—a design that is as innovative as it is symbolic. 

Gibraltar now emerges as one of the pioneering British Overseas Territories (BOTs) embracing this modern transformation, with the new coin set joining circulation later in that year. 

The graceful retirement of the round pound pays tribute to decades of tradition, while the introduction of the 12-sided £1 coin signals Gibraltar’s commitment to innovation and excellence in coin design.

The Definitive Coins of Gibraltar:

"Charles III was crowned King on 6th May 2021. In honour of this new Carolean era Joe Bossano of the Gibraltar National Mint, on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar, issued a brand new set of definitive coins, which were officially unveiled at 2024 World Money Fair.

The Reverse design of each coin features an element related to the new King, included in his Official Royal cypher along with imagery and items associated with his coronation. The Obverse of each Coin features an effigy of the King designed by Robert Maklouf.

In 2024, Gibraltar became one of the first British Overseas Territories (BOT) to intriduce the 12-sided one Pound Coin which has enhanced security features making it near impossible to counterfeit."
