The Reverses of the $5 (Five Dollars) Al-Zn-Br Coins issued by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) depict the 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Australia against a background representation of the Heritage Site.
The Royal Australian Mint (RAM) has brought out this $5 (Five Dollars) Coin featuring 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Australia.
The Australian Natural and Cultural Sites (ANCS) listed on the World Heritage Register are each unique, beautiful and valuable to humanity.
Every site is featured in a stunning montage on this 2023 $5 Coloured Frosted Uncirculated Coin, celebrating Australia’s World Heritage.
This Coin has been released to coincide with the ICOMOS 21st General Assembly and Scientific Symposium, being hosted in Australia in 2023.
Featured on this coin are the following 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites are:
Australian Convict Sites, Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, Sydney Opera House, Australian Fossil Mammal Sites (Riversleigh/Naracoorte), K’gari (Fraser Island), Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, Great Barrier Reef, Greater Blue Mountains Area, Heard and McDonald Islands, Lord Howe Island, Macquarie Island, Ningaloo Coast, Purnululu National Park, Shark Bay (Western Australia), Wet Tropics of Queensland, Kakadu National Park, Tasmanian Wilderness, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Willandra Lakes Region.
The Coin:
On the Reverse the $5 (Five Dollars) Aluminium - Zinc - Brass Coin beautifully depicts the many amazing natural and constructed landmarks recognised as World Heritage sites in Australia.
Featured on this face are images of all 20 Australian World Heritage Properties in intricate detailed relief, which frames a full-colour, central image of a handprint, fan palm frond, and a shell fossil surrounded by bricks to represent the natural and built icons and Australia’s rich Indigenous heritage.
Encircling the colour-applied design is the text AUSTRALIAN WORLD HERITAGE PROPERTIES with the denomination 5 DOLLARS placed just below. Australia’s heritage sites depicted on the coin are: Australian Convict Sites, Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, Sydney Opera House, Australian Fossil Mammal Sites (Riversleigh/Naracoorte), K’gari (Fraser Island), Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, Great Barrier Reef, Greater Blue Mountains Area, Heard and McDonald Islands, Lord Howe Island, Macquarie Island, Ningaloo Coast, Purnululu National Park, Shark Bay (Western Australia), Wet Tropics of Queensland, Kakadu National Park, Tasmanian Wilderness, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Willandra Lakes Region.
On the Obverse of the $5 (Five Dollars) Aluminium - Zinc - Brass Coin is a right facing effigy of Late Queen Elizabeth II (1926–2022) designed by Jody Clark whose initials "JC" appear on the Queen's shoulder.
On the outer periphery is the inscription - ELIZABETH II 1952-2022. AUSTRALIA. 2023".
