4119) "Queensland Christmas Orchid", Australia: "Festive Silver Proof Coin Series": A 50 Cents Coin minted by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) in Cupro-nickel and Silver Variants: Date/Year of Coin issue: 2025:
The Royal Australian Mint (RAM) release new coins adorned with a holiday motif in time for Christmas.
The Obverse and Reverse of the Coin features a stylised image of the elegant Queensland Christmas orchid against a background representation of the Orchid.
This is the seventh release in the Royal Australian Mint’s on-going Christmas coin programme featuring a number of native Australian plants that flower in December. Each year these special native Australian plants which are found in lush rainforests and known for its snowy blossoms have traditionally been seen as heralds of the Christmas season.
As Australia is in the southern hemisphere and Christmas is a time of warm and sunny weather for the land down under, one of these native plants which flourishes in December is the elegant Queensland Christmas orchid - Calanthe triplicate.
Designed by Royal Australian Mint (RAM) artist Lydia Ashe, the Reverse of the 50 Cents Cupro-nickel and Silver Variants/Coins reimagines the Queensland Christmas orchid as a styled ornate bauble hanging amongst a riot of Art-Nouveau floral embellishments.
Above the primary design of two orchid blooms is the year of release 2025 which is framed as part of the top of the ornament itself.
The Obverse of the 50 Cents Cupro-nickel and Silver Variants/Coins depicts the Commonwealth effigy of Charles III designed by Dan Thorne.
The year of issue "2025" is included in the legend "CHARLES III AUSTRALIA" surrounding the effigy. Below the effigy is the denomination of "50 CENTS".
