The Royal Australian Mint has released Silver Bullion
coins featuring the country’s Bush Capital.
Well known landmarks in Canberra feature along with a
bounding kangaroo on the Reverse.
2025 is the 32nd release in the renowned and popular
Kangaroo bullion series which also coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the
founding of the Royal Australian Mint.
As part of the year-long celebrations,
these new Kangaroo coins feature a design which showcases the city of Canberra,
Australia’s bush capital and home of the Mint.
Situated in the suburb of
Deakin, the Royal Australian Mint was officially opened by Prince Philip, the
Duke of Edinburgh, and has been the primary production facility for Australia's
circulating coins since.
This year’s Kangaroo series design celebrates Canberra’s
special blend of urban sophistication and natural charm, reflecting the close
connection between the city and its natural environment.
The Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Canberra’s most ubiquitous marsupial inhabitants and a familiar sight
in the city’s parks and reserves, is also a proud emblem of the city’s natural
identity. Whether admired for its artistic detail or symbolic significance, the
Bush Capital coin stands as a proud tribute to Australia’s capital and this
iconic marsupial.
The Coin:
Designed by Royal Australian Mint designer Bronwyn Scott,
the Reverse design depicts an elegant eastern grey kangaroo bounding through a
stylised representation of Canberra, the bush capital.
Swaths of dense and
ornate bush land are counterpointed with striking representations of iconic
landmarks including the distinctive top portion of Parliament House, Black
Mountain Tower and the Royal Australian Mint’s own headquarters.
Above, five
hot air balloons fill the sky along with the coins’ specifications "1 oz .999 Ag" placed near the top-left peripbhery.
The denomination "1 DOLLAR" is placed just under
the bounding kangaroo.
The Obverse of the silver proof and bullion strikes
includes the an effigy of Charles III created by engraver Dan
Thorne.
The legend above the Charles III's effigy reads "CHARLES III AUSTRALIA 2025".
